CHRIS ELLIS - Famous Ships of World War 2, in Colour

Great Britain, Blandford Press, 1976. First Edition, Binding: Cloth, Various Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall 0713707860 Hardback Hardback. First Edition. The variety of the ships featured are representative of the many types and classes of ship involved in World War 2. The famous (or notorious) are included, as are some of the less well-known but nonetheless important ships of the war. World War 2 was a 'total war', involving all kinds of vessels, and the author's selections for review accordingly range from aircraft carrier to corvette. One of the characteristic features of war-time naval tactics was the attempt to provide some kind of concealment or disruptive painting for the most important warship types. Camouflage schemes gave rise to many quite bizarre and colourful patterns, and some very sombre and plain ones too. The colour plates give some idea of the immense variety of solour seen on ships on the high seas in the war years. Illustrated. 210 pp.
