SHORTER, MRS. BANI AND OTHERS
Books on Asia for Children
New York, The Asia Society. 1961. Soft cover. Book, First Edition. 24pp, Introduction, Asia--General, Japan, Korea, China, Formosa, Tibet, Philippines, Thailand, Malaya and Singapore, Indonesia, Burma, Ceylon, India, Pakistan. 8vo/23cm. Illustrated card-stock wrappers, light soil, few check marks internally otherwise clean, tight and very good. An annotated and select list. Mrs. Bani Shorter is an author of note including of childrens books on India. The annotations are sensitively done, e.g. the description for Kipling's KIM is particularly perceptive for those of us who have tried to get American youngsters interested in it, "While traditionally suggested as a book for young readers, its difficult prose and many allustions to the historical setting in which the story takes place make it suitable only for the exeptional high school student who has had extensive reading experience on India.". Very Good.
