"A brief and much-too-frivolous view of human habitation inside and out in word and picture---from Stonehenge to Manhattan." A new version of two of the author's previous books, Pillar to Post and Homes Sweet Homes together with many new drawings depicting specifically American contributions from saltbox to skyscraper. Osbert Lancaster (1908-1986) was a British cartoonist, author, art critic and stage designer. He was fondly summarized in his Times obituary: "The most polite and unsplenetic of cartoonists, he was never a crusader, remaining always a witty civilized critic, with a profound understanding of the vagaries of human nature.".
