Autograph letter by L. van Weleveld, to the Prince van Oranje [Fredrik?], in which he mentions the publication of his 'Wapenboek' and the fact that he already sent proof prints and a prospectus for said work. Weleveld assumes that these arrived in good order and '...dat de suppliant moet veronderstellen dat de bedeelde prospectus met de afdrukken nimmer in Uwer Koninklijke Hoogheids handen zijn gekomen, vermits hij steeds het genoegen heeft moeten ontberen antwoord daaromtrent ...te ontvangen'. Van Weleveld seems unhappy with this and in passing mentions the King [Willem I], Prins Frederik [2nd son of Willem I], the Crown Prince [Willem] and Prince Karel van Pruissen as subscribers! Seeing that the 'Wapenboek' will be finished by the end of the year, Van Weleveld continues his advertising campaign and resends the subscription prospectus.

Folio sheet [Meas. appr. 24.5 x 37 cm.]. 2 further vertical folds. 34 lines of text, 1 signature over 3 pp. (Probably written by a calligrapher hired by van Weleveld). Autograph signature. (3 pp., 1 (blank) p.). (First page top left a blindembossed tax stamp ['Formaat-zegel'] for 50 c. Idem an inked tax stamp 'Zuid-Holland 38 OPC (enten)'. L.A. van Weleveld [...], worked as a civil servant at the 'Hoge Raad van Adel' in the Hague for 30 years. As early as 1830 van Weleveld published his '[Algemeen] Wapenboek van den Nederlandschen Adel', unfortunately the Belgian Revolution of 1830 saw the separation of north and south and subscribers / buyers of the book lost interest in nobility and heraldry pertaining to 'Holland' AND 'Belgium'. A 'Handboek van den Nederlandsche Adel' followed in 1848, focussing on Dutch heraldic devices and families. [The Hague, (H.C.Susan), 1848 and 1848 - 1852, in two or three 4to vols. w. appr. 500 handcol. engr. coats-of-arms).
