Van Beverwijck originally published them separately, including some small works that were later incorporated into the larger ones, from 1635 to 1645. Although his 1635 Lof der medicine (here incorporated into the Schat der ongesontheydt) had first appeared in Latin as Medicinae encomivm in 1633, Van Beverwijck’s real revolution was to publish in Dutch for the general Dutch public, which had a remarkably high rate of literacy, rather than in Latin for scholars and professional physicians.
