So entstand die Idee zu diesem Bildband. Autor: Holger Leue gilt als einer der angesehensten deutschen Reisefotografen. Seine Aufnahmen sind bereits in mehr als 80 Bildbänden, Reiseführern und Kalendern, sowie in unzähligen Zeitschriftenartikeln erschienen. Er fotografiert regelmässig für diverse Magazine und Verlage, sowie für Fremdenverkehrsämter, Reedereien und Reiseveranstalter. "Das Wohlbefinden, welches ich in einer Destination verspüre", sagt er, "spiegelt sich in der Qualität der Aufnahmen wider." Bislang hat Holger Leue Auftragsarbeiten in über 80 Ländern verwirklicht. Nach seinem Fotojournalismus-Studium an der University of California in Santa Cruz führte Holger Leues erste "Dienstreise" auf die Südhalbkugel. Mit viel Elan, grosser Neugier und etlichen hundert Filmen reiste er nach Neuseeland, um drei Monate lang Aotearoa zu erkunden, dem Land der langen weissen Wolke (wie die Maori-Ureinwohner ihre neuseeländische Heimat bezeichnen). Es war eine prägende und ergiebige Reise, denn die Resultate erschienen kurz darauf in einem deutschen Reisemagazin, was wiederum zu einem Buchprojekt führte und in einen grösseren Auftrag für ein Fremdenverkehrsamt mündete. Seit nunmehr 20 Jahren ist Holger Leue "on the road" (und seit knapp 10 Jahren auch "on the sea") - meistens mit ein- bis zweiwöchigen Projekten, bei denen er sich die Aufgabe stellt, das Besondere einer Destination auf kunstvolle Art einzufangen. Der Weltenbummler, der auch zwischen Heimaten im kalifornischen San Francisco und dem osthessischen Haunetal pendelt, ist insgesamt ca. vier bis sechs Monate im Jahr unterwegs und empfindet seinen Beruf als privilegiert: "Ich schätze mich sehr glücklich darüber, durch meine Tätigkeit die Schönheit der Welt und deren Kulturen kennenzulernen." Vom Fischer auf Aruba über den Garküchenchef in Macau bis zu den Stammesmitgliedern der Huli im wilden Hochland von Papua-Neuguinea: Allen kann der Fotograf ein authentisches Lächeln entlocken: "Herzlichkeit verbindet eben," sagt er augenzwinkernd. Holger Leue arbeitet dort, wo andere Menschen ihren Urlaub verbringen. Gute Logistik und das Glück des Tüchtigen spielen gleichermassen eine grosse Rolle bei der Verwirklichung von professionellen Reisefotos. Ist Holger Leue unterwegs, dann ist er von Tagesanbruch bis weit nach Sonnenuntergang auf Motivsuche. "Viele Menschen glauben, dass ein Reisefotograf stets Urlaub macht," erklärt Holger Leue, "doch die Realität sieht anders aus." So kann es durchaus mal vorkommen, dass er am letzten Tag einer Karibikreise bemerkt, dass seine Zehenspitzen noch keinmal das Wasser berührt haben. So sehr der Perfektionist auch mit Akribie an der bestmöglichen Aufnahme arbeitet, so vergisst er doch nie, dass ein Foto erst fasziniert, wenn es neben optimaler Technik auch "Seele" hat. Voll und ganz gibt sich Holger Leue seiner Mission hin, das Besondere einer Destination auf aussergewöhnliche Weise mit seiner Kamera einzufangen.
