[TRADE CATALOGUE OF LUXURY FURS].

Folio. With five exquisite pochoir plates of elegant fur coats placed on an intense yellow background and five b/w plates with fifteen photographs in heliogravure by Felix within yellow frames. Bound in sophisticated yellow embossed paper boards by Devauchelle with printed label on upper cover within a pretty decorated frame in colour. Original printed covers bound in. First and only edition of this stunning fashion catalogue. Revillon Frres, originally founded as Maison Givelet in 1723, was a famous French fur and luxury goods company. It was purchased by Louis-Victor Revillon in 1839, successfully developed with establishment of new fur boutiques in London, New York and Montreal in the 1860s. Their success encouraged the creation of a profitable fur industry in Europe and North America. In the early 1900s, French fashion designers such as Madame Isidore Paquin and Paul Poiret introduced stylish fur garments in their regular fashion collections. Mme Paquin had developed a method of processing fur so that it would be softer and more comfortable to wear. Her fur coats and other fur decorated clothing were in great demand by the socially prominent women of that period (Hansen, 1956, Costume cavalcade, p. 100). A superb specimen of an extraordinary work.

Numbered in old Japanese. Bound in original paper wrappers. Covers, first and last leaves affected by wormholes. With stamp of Kosode Gofukuten which is the name of a kimono store. We assume that this is a pattern book that was used at the shop Kosode Gofukuten in the mid 19 the century. On rear cover the name Tominaga Shobei and a hand written Kyoto address are added. Inside the back cover the word Misaki is crossed out, maybe it's the name of the artist (?). A rare example of a complete hand written kimono design book from the late Edo period.

OGINO ISSUI:
Zuan hyakutai (One Hundred Decorative Designs). Three volumes. Kyoto, Unsodo, Meiji 13 (1910).
A complete set of this beautiful collection of zuan-cho with 137 different designs in neo-Rinpa style, on 78 double-page plates. Double folded leaves in the Oriental manner. Original decorated covers, housed in old silk covered folder, title label on upper cover. Ogino Issui was a renowned designer in Japan in the beginning of the 20th century. He was a student of Furuya Korin, the renowned painter and designer who used a new painting technique with geometric form and dynamic line which created a Japanese "modern design". The Rinpa is a style within Japanese art based on nature which was developed in the 17th century. The neo-Rinpa style is a revival with contemporary elements and strong influences from the Art Nouveau. In the beginning of the 20th century an increased demand for modern designs for kimonos and other textile products led to publication of this kind of design books.

MALMÉN, PER:, Mönster för marmormålning (Patterns of faux marbling painting). Part one (all published). Stockholm, Gustaf Chelius, 1895.
MALMÉN, PER:
Mönster för marmormålning (Patterns of faux marbling painting). Part one (all published). Stockholm, Gustaf Chelius, 1895.
Large folio. (39 x 54 cm). Pp. (4). With ten lithographed plates of different kinds of marbles. Text leaves with some marginal tears and some plates with a few spots in margins and some plates with tears at the outer margins but overall a very good copy. Original half cloth on grey boards, cotton ties, lightly rubbed. Title in German ("Marmormalereien") printed in black on upper cover. (We have not been able to find any other copy with German titled wrappers). First and only edition of this scarce book, the first of its kind in Sweden. Per Malmn (1852-1926) studied at the Acadmie Bertillion in Paris in the 1870s and became a prominent faux marbling painter. According to rumours, he conducted several marbleizing works at the Louvre but it has not been proven mainly because the artists did not sign their works at that time. This impressive manual was used at the Technical School in Stockholm where Malmn taught for many years. The plates depict several kinds of marbles titled: Vert de Mer; Jaune de Sienne; Chateau-Landon, Rance; St. Anne; Marbre de Kolmrden, Granit; Portor; Bleu Fleurl, Rance and; Breche Violette. The text explains methods of creating the various stone patterns. Ref.: Fredrik Thrnqvist: "Marmoristen & Mlarmstaren Per Malmn" 2011.
