Bound in full 19th c. sheep over boards with sewn headbands, 4to, printed text measures 198 x 137 mm, leaf size 8-5/8 x 6-5/8 inches [220 x 168 mm], watermarked endpapers, black-letter text printed in double columns having 71 lines to each full column. Volume bound thus: prelims. with 39 leaves, (which includes Morning Prayer, An Order of Evening Prayer, The Letanie, The Collects, The Communion, The Administration of Baptism, Confirmation, Matrimony, Visitation of the Sick, Communion of the Sick, Burial of the Dead, The Churching of Women [Childbirth], A Commination, The Psalms and Godly Prayers with a letterpress colophon at end) ; The Genealogies by J. S. [John Speed] (title, pp. 34) ; The Old Testament (title [dated 1615], pp. 1-358) ; Apocrypha (pp. 359 - 435) ; The New Testament (title [dated 1615], The Summe of the Whole Scripture of the Books.. Certain Questions and Answers.. The Names and Order of all the Bookes.. The Holy Gospel, pp. 441 - 554) ; Two Right Profitable Concordances.. (title [dated 1615], Preface [dated 1578], 80 leaves with letterpress colophon dated 1615) ; also bound with : The Whole Booke of Paslmes. Collected into English Meeter, by Thomas Sternehold, John Hopkins, and Others.. London. Printed for the Company of Stationers. 1614. (title, pp. [vi] music, 64 [music and song] ). Volume with heavy wear to binding, upper board completely detached, old thoughtess tape repairs to lower board, spine and endpapers, lacking perhaps a general title ahead of the prelims. and the "A" leaf from "A" signature (Morning Prayer) of prelims. - also probably lacking at least the final leaf of The Whole Booke of Paslmes at rear as p. 64 ends with catchword "The", general light soil, toning and wear throughout with faint tide marks to some edges also noted, an occasional stray pen mark and 4 tiny ink * marks from an earlier reader denoting the "breeches" verse. Volume still tightly bound and very useable. Barker's last black-letter quarto edition of the Geneva "Breeches" Bible, complete with the issue points of "..rea | dy finding.." and "..be instructed | assured..", printed text measures 198 x 137 mm and with Speed's Genealogies as called for. Ref. Herbert 341.B. With the family genealogy for George Barrett [b. 1781] & Jane Garland [b.1779] verso p. 435 and verso New Testament title [both being blanks] beginning with their marriage Feb. 13th 1805 and ending in the mid-1800's after the death of yet another of their young children. Provenance : from the Barrett family to a dealer in Cambridge, England whence it was purchased by Dr. J. MacLead in 1936 and then gifted to his daughter in 1977. Good .
