. Pp. (ii), 5-40. Uncut copy bound in half calf to period style, gilt spine with red gilt morocco label. First edition. The first part of this work contains a letter about the colony, its contributions in the past and what opportunities may exist for the future, and in addition some general information regarding trade. The second part, ascribed to Henry Sheere, is mainly about the local British residents' situation and their prospects. However, the British were forced to withdraw and destroyed the city and its port before they left in 1684. Kress 1517. Playfair, Morocco, 271.

[NONOMURA, CHUBE / OGATA, KÍRIN]:, Ehon K›rin (K›rin Patterns). Three volumes (complete). Ky›to, Suma Kanbe, early 19th century (ca 1800-30).
[NONOMURA, CHUBE / OGATA, KÍRIN]:
Ehon K›rin (K›rin Patterns). Three volumes (complete). Ky›to, Suma Kanbe, early 19th century (ca 1800-30).
. An album (24.3 x 17.7 cm) containing 95 b/w woodblock-printed designs of plants and animals in the "K›rin style". Lvs 16; 16; 17, double folded in the Japanese fashion. Includes two prefaces and one colophon. Ex-ownership red stamps. Text in Japanese. Original wrappers, with some minor wear, printed paper labels on covers. Housed in cloth slipcase. We believe this sketch book is a reproduction of a work titled "K›rin Ehon Michi Shirube" by the artist Nonomura Chube published in 1735. Nonomura issued several design manuals (edehon) influenced by the Rinpa school master Ogata K›rin (1658-1716). The Rinpa is a style within Japanese art based on nature which was developed during the 17th century. The typical K›rin patterns are characterised by simplified forms with prominent and smooth outlines. A well-preserved album with charming designs of animals, insects, flowers and plants.

A Forced March from My Home in Old England, to My Home in the Regiment. Bangalore, Printed at the Columbian Press, by Thomas Beare, 1848.
. Small 8vo. Pp. (iv), 203, (1) with errata leaf tipped in. Original cloth, rubbed and spine ends chipped. Rare travelogue of a journey made in 1846 by an officer returning through Europe to his regimental base in India. The authorship is attributed to Charles Foveaux Kirkby, then a captain in the Fourteenth Madras Native Infantry. The account describes the visit to Paris and then is mainly devoted to his stay in Rome. From there he passed through Naples, Sorrento, Malta and Alexandria before taking a steamer from Cairo to Madras. This work is one of only two known from the Colombian Press at Bangalore! The second work is a Tamil language book printed in 1850. See: D.E. Rhodes article in The British Museum Quarterly, vol. 34 no. 3/4 (1970), pp. 83-86. Seems scarce, we've only found two library copies (British Library and Princeton University). Not in Diehl.
