Table 1 is an engraved plate, with "The Section of Mount Vesuvius as if cut thro' its Summit", with key numbering, and an "Explanation of the Plate" below. Table 2 is a view, "Prospect of Vesuvius from the King's Palace at Porticic, with an explanation of key numbers below. Table 3 is"A Table of the Weather at Naples from May 1, 1737 to June 8, exclusive". Table 1 is cut close at bottom edge. Table 3 with minor edge repair. Pp.,xlviii,360. 2 engraved plates, including frontis and 2 ill's and a table in the text. Modern half-calf on marbled boards. Calf title label, lettered in gitl on spine. Heavy spotting and some browning to the plates. Title page with some spots, and lighter spotting, reducing, over the first half dozen leaves. Then, light sporadic spots to pages and heavier on half a dozen or so. Edges of text block age darkened. Very minor loss of gilt to 2 of the letters. Smart and solid copy of this scarce work. - .##. - Noted as "3rd edition" on the title page. In the "Advertsement to the Third Edition", the Author writes, that he had lacked the time to make alterations to the 2nd edition, "and the reader is informed that the present Edition is merely a Re-print of the Second Impression of the Work". Frontis is "Plate 2", as required placement. "Plate 1" bound in at page 64 instead of 344, where it would have been as required, prior to the "Description of the Plates" The heavier spotting to pages in the area of page 344 indicates that the plate was in its correct place prior to rebind. - .##. - We specialise in History of Science and other Scholarly Books
