RUSSELL CHATHAM.
The Angler's Coast. {The Book is Signed by Russell Chatham. Accompanying the Book is a Striper Fly Dressed by Russ and a Striped Bass Print Illustrated by Him}.
Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. [1976] 1990. Quarto (11 x 9). 163 pp. plus colophon. First Clark City Press Edition. Signed and with a brief inscription by Russ "For Diane / Kentfield - July 15 / Russell Chatham" / [Papermill Creek / Tomales Bay monogram] / "1991." Laid-in the book is a Striped Bass fly dressed by Russ on a size 3/0 saltwater hook; it measures 5 inches in length, and it too is as scarce as candid booksellers. Also accompanying the book is a black and white print showing a striper illustrated by Russ, 7 x 1 1/2 inches; it was drawn on thick mat paper, which measures 10 x 13 1/2 inches, and it too was completed in a small limitation. The text is the same as the 1976 first edition, differing only with a new Introduction by Russ and added black and white photos, many showing Bill Schaadt and Russ Chatham fly fishing. Text drawings by the author. Chatham’s book is, in my biased opinion, the best work on fly fishing published during the last 40 years. The book is bound in cream cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Photo end papers. Pictorial dust jacket. Both are in fine condition. The striper fly and the print are also fine. Signed by Author.

RUSSELL CHATHAM.
The Angler's Coast. {Signed by Russell Chatham & Tom McGuane. Accompanying the Book is a Striper Fly Dressed by Russ and a Signed Limited Edition Print Showing a Silver Salmon}.
New York. Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1976. Octavo (8 x 5). 158 pp. First Edition. Signed, dated and with a small drawing by the author, "Russell Chatham / Deep Creek" [Papermill Creek/ Tomales Bay monogram] / "1982". The book is also signed on the front end paper by Tom McGuane, who wrote the Prologue to the book. Accompanying the book is a Striper fly dressed by Russell, which measures 5 inches in length and it’s dressed on a size 3/0 saltwater hook. There’s also a limited edition print drawn by Russ showing a Silver Salmon, penciled in Russ’s hand with the number "190/200" / [Papermill Creek/Tomales Bay monogram] / "1994". The print was initially included with the limited edition of Deep Waters published in 1994, and whether it’s from one these copies or issued separately, isn’t known. The print measures 6 x 7 1/2 inches. The book was illustrated by Russ; his fishing and nature stories and essays are some of the finest written during the last 40 years. Clearly one of the very best books on fly fishing, but it also celebrates his longtime friendship with Bill Schaadt, fly fisherman extraordinaire. A nice book, fly, and print. The book is fine (with the nearly always present binder’s glue visible in the gutter of the half-title) in a fine dust jacket; the fly and print are also in fine condition. Signed by Author.

RUSSELL CHATHAM.
The Angler's Coast. {Signed by Russell Chatham}.
New York. Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1976. Octavo (8 x 5). 158 pp. First Edition. Introduction by Thomas McGuane. Signed, dated, and with a small drawing by Russ on the half-title page: "Russell Chatham / DEEP CREEK" / [Papermill Creek - Tomales Bay monogram] / "1979". The book’s text illustrations were drawn by Russ. This is Russ Chatham’s and Bill Schaadt’s monograph, a fixation on their extraordinary Pacific Coast fly fishing experiences - Herculean distance casting, obsessive/ compulsive feats of non-stop, day and night fishing for 50 pound salmon, verbal jousting for the best casting spots, and it concludes with Russ’s laconic and inspirational moments described in the chapter "A Sometime Island of Dreams." These fishing stories and essays are the finest written during the last 40 years. The book is bound in green and gray cloth with gilt titles. Pictorial dust jacket. A nice book. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Signed by Author.

RUSSELL CHATHAM.
Dark Waters: Essays, Stories and Articles.
Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. 1991 [1988]. Second printing. Octavo (9 x 7). 208 pp. Illustrated by the author. Black and white photos. Foreword by Nick Lyons. Compelling, interesting stories penned by a master writer. No other west coast writer has captured and expressed in such absorbing language fly fishing for salmon, steelhead and stripers as has Russ Chatham. The black and white photo on the front cover was taken by Russ of his friend Guy de la Valdene during a successful salmon fly fishing trip to Iceland. If you would like to read about the adventure from Guy’s point-of-view, read his book "On the Water." The book is bound in pictorial wrappers with white titles. Just a touch of edge wear, otherwise a fine book.

RUSSELL CHATHAM.
One Hundred Paintings. {Limited Edition Together with Russell Chatham’s Gallery Exhibit Binder Containing 93 Color Images of Russell’s Lithographs Offered for Sale}.
Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. 1990. Oblong Quarto (9 1/2 x 10 1/2). 135 pp. plus colophon. Limited Edition. Book number 120 of an unspecified edition. Inscribed, signed and dated by Russell on the half-title page. With a pencil sketch drawn by Russ underneath the inscription, and with a tipped-in color print of Russ’s original oil on canvas painting "The Seasons" in the collection of the Museum of the Rockies mounted on the dedication leaf. Essays by Jim Harrison, Chris Waddington, and Russell Chatham. With color reproductions of 100 paintings by Chatham, which trace his thirty-year career as a landscape painter from his California period through his Montana period. This limited edition is a bit of an anomaly: the book is bound in beige cloth with gilt titles on the spine and front cover, like the regular limited edition, and it’s numbered 120 by Russ on the colophon page, like the others. It has a silk ribbon marker. And it has a pictorial dust jacket, while the regular limited edition does not; it’s the same jacket issued with the trade cloth bound copies. There’s no slip case with this book. And at the same time this limited edition appears to throw a little sand in the publishing gears regarding the number of copies actually made available to the public - heretofore the consensus on the number of copies of the limited edition published has more or less settled on 275 - is this hybrid limited included in that number? It’s anyone’s guess. The book is in fine condition and the jacket is near fine with a little rubbing at bottom of the jacket’s spine. //////////// Accompanying the book is Russell’s Gallery Exhibit Binder which holds 93 colored photos showing Russ’s lithographs (mostly Montana scenes) available for sale; the binder was used by gallery folks to keep track and record inventory. The images range in size from 11 x 8 1/2 to 5 x 6 inches and each image is identified along with the year completed. There’s an introductory essay written by Russ titled "Is it a Lithograph, or is it a Lithograph?" with a typed tab attached which reads "Russell Chatham." The photos are kept in plastic sleeves in a three-ring binder. Images under the headings "Rare Prints" and "Latest Releases" show the price for each lithograph penned in ink underneath the photo. There’s also a few additional and separate color photos kept in a sleeve, ranging from photos of Russ’s paintings and lithos and a couple of unidentified photos. The photos and binder in fine condition. Signed by Author.

RUSSELL CHATHAM.
Russ Chatham’s Greetings Cards (125 of them) with Russ’s Summer Pine Image on the Front Panel.
The greeting cards were printed by Russ in 1990 by his Clark City Press and each card measures 5 x 7 inches with the image of "Summer Pine" on the front panel. This same painting was printed on the dust jacket of Russ’s book "One Hundred Paintings." The original 1974 oil is in the Peter Fonda and Becky Fonda collection. THOS. H. CHUBB.
Retail Catalogue for 1891. Issued by Thos. H. Chubb, The Fishing Rod Manufacturer, Post Mills, Vermont, Manufacturer of Fishing Rods and Anglers' Supplies. (Thomas H. Chubb).
Hartford, Connecticut. A. Mugford Engraver and Printer. 1891. Ninth Edition. Octavo (9 x 6). 125 pp. plus eight plates of stunning chromolithographs showing artificial flies for trout, lake trout and bass. Text illustrations. Text drawings showing a variety of fishing products offered by the Chubb Company, including a large number rods and rod accessories, reels, hooks, spinners, fly boxes, knives, etc. With eight beautifully rendered color plates showing artificial flies in full nineteenth century splendor. Also stories and essays on tools and tackle by James A. Henshall, Bow-Fin Fishing in the South Slang, Salmon Fishing, Southern Fishing, Curiosities of Angling, Sport in Oregon, etc. One of America's premier nineteenth century angling catalogues, and this catalogue exceptionally rare issued with colored plates of flies. This was the age of the Fancy Fly - colorful things nearly the size of hummingbirds; curiously snickered at today, it's likely many of today's killer fly patterns will succumb to the same fate 100 years from now. The 1891 catalogue was the last original Chubb catalogue issued - a fire destroyed the factory in the same year. There were additional catalogues issued using the Chubb company name, however the company was rebuilt and under different ownership from 1891 onward. The book is bound in its original burgundy cloth with gilt titles and front cover gilt illustration. Rare and simply beautiful. Very good.
