Beverley's style is easy, unsophisticated, and pleasing, and his work is most useful for the period following the Restoration (Church 821). This work affords the most vivid, comprehensive, instructive, and entertaining picture of Virginia at the date of his writing that is to be found (Sabin 5117). The book served to attract many immigrants to Virginia. As a native-born American, he provided English readers with the first thoroughgoing account of Virginia and It also gives a favourable account of the slave society that had developed in Virginia by the beginning of the eighteenth century..
