Red Road from Stalingrad: Recollections of a Soviet Infantryman
Mint condition. Pen & Sword Military, 2004. First UK edition-first printing. Brown hardback(gilt lettering to the spine) with Dj(very small nick/tear and scratch on the edges of the Dj cover), both in mint condition. Illustrated with b/w photos, maps. The book is new with a small nick on the edge of the pages. 204pp including Appendices I-III and index. Price un-clipped. First edition. Product Description: Mansur Abdulin fought in the front ranks of the Soviet infantry against the German invaders at Stalingrad, Kursk and on the banks of the Dnieper. This is his extraordinary story. n nHis vivid inside view of a ruthless war on the Eastern Front gives a rare insight into the reality of the fighting and into the tactics and mentality of the Red Army's soldiers. In his own words, and with a remarkable clarity of recall, he describes what combat was like on the ground, face to face with a skilled, deadly and increasingly desperate enemy. The terrifying moments of action, the discomfort of existence at the front, the humorous moments, the absurdities and cruelties of army organization, and the sheer physical and psychological harshness of the campaign - all these aspects of a Soviet soldier's experience during the Great Patriotic War are brought dramatically to life in Mansur Abdulin's memoirs. n nOf special interest is the insight he offers into ordinary operations and daily life in the lower ranks of the Soviet army. As he tells his story he reveals much about the thinking of the men, their attitude to the war and their loyalties. He also sheds light on the tense relationships between the disparate national groups that were thrown together to create a huge fighting force. But most memorable are his honest, horrifying descriptions of combat, of being bombed and shelled, of trench warfare, of enduring tank attacks and friendly fire, and of coping with the wounded and the dead. n nThe Author Mansur Gizzatulovich Abdulin was born a Tatar in Anzhero-Sudzhensk, near Tomsk in central Siberia, in 1923. He worked as a miner before volunteering to fight for the Red Army in June 1942. After completing his course at the Tashkent infantry school, he fought on the Stalingrad front, during the encirclement of the German 6th Army, participated in the bitter, decisive battle at Kursk and harried the Germans as they retreated across the Steppes to the banks of the Dnieper river where he was seriously wounded. After the war he returned to his work as a miner and he now lives in retirement at Novotroitsk near Orenburg in the Urals. As New/As New. ISBN: 9781844151455

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Script Book, Season Two, Volume 2
Mint condition. Pocket Pulse, 2001. First paperback edition-first printing(10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 10. Large format paperback(small nick on the edges of the cover ) in mint condition. The book is new with a small nick on the outer edge of the pages. 400pp. First edition. Heavy and oversized book. Product Description: The fourth collection of the original shooting scripts from the hottest show on television The phenomenal success of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is owing to a great extent to the quality of the writing. Robert Hanks, TV critic of The Independent, wrote in September 2000: One of the most consistently brilliant piece of popular entertainment ever. it mixes these broad emotions with real sadness, shifting from wisecracks to loss, self-doubt and utter loneliness without missing a beat. It would be absurd to compare the show's writing to Shakespeare, but there aren't many other precedents for the way it refuses to observer the conventional divisions between comedy and tragedy. The Observer acknowledged the same qualities: Pulling off these shifts in tone from humour to horror to high emotion is a tribute to the strength of the writing. The Buffy scripts are as rewarding and as entertaining on the page as they are on screen. Now thanks to Pocket Books' volume-by-volume publication of the complete collected scripts from the show, fans can savour every moment of high emotion or of wisecracking quick-fire dialogue. With the added bonus of the original production notes and scenes that were cut from the final aired episodes for length, these are essential reading for all students of TV scriptwriting and a must for Buffy's devoted legion of fans. Fine condition. Macmillan, 2005. First edition-first printing(1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2). Black hardback(gilt lettering to the spine) with Dj(a couple of creases and nicks on the Dj cover), both in fine condition. The book is new with a small pencil mark impression on the first blank page of the book, small nick on the outer edge of the pages. 346pp. Price un-clipped. Product Description: I cannot recall the exact moment when I decided to become a Reader. This is unusual for me, as I am always precise about beginnings. Imagine a future without a past, a time without memory, a state in which nationality, ancestry, tradition, language, history have no place. Governing this world is a hyper-organised system of corporations, a network of companies, each responsible for a particular product, each with a workforce conditioned to one end. But somewhere, a clandestine group is operating to preserve the past. In the Olive producing region of Olea, The Readers are smuggling and storing books in a secret library hidden away in the house of Jephzat and her family. When her sister disappears under suspicious circumstances, and her parents are hastily re-located by the Company, Jephzat is ordered to remain in the house, unaware of the organization operating from its hidden room. Alone and facing the suspicion and hostility of the villagers, she falls in love with Homer, an olive picker she once rescued from the hands of Company Commissioners and a long-time member of The Readers. As Homer introduces her to the library, and her hunger for knowledge grows, so do her questions, and soon she finds herself heavily and dangerously involved not only in the recovery and preservation of books, but in a secret plan that is set to endanger Jephzat herself and her beloved family. Not bad for the rebellious, mixed-up girl from Leeds who is still only in her mid-20s. Born to a working-class mixed-race family from Leeds (her mother took extra work cleaning toilets to pay for her dancing lessons), Melanie B grew up feeling different from her schoolfriends. Her hyperactive energy was channelled into drama school, and in 1994 the Spice Girls were formed. The rest is history. Near Fine/Near Fine. ISBN: 9780755310623
