Sutan Sjahrir an avant garde and idealistic indonesian intellectual, who was a revolutionary independence leader. He became the first Prime Minister of Indonesia in 1945 and was a close friend to the elder statesman Mohammad Hatta. This collection of letters, written in exile in Boven Digoel concentration camp, dutch territory of New Guinea, where Sjahrir was sent after his conviction for nationalis activities, November 1935, can be seen as a political testimonial.
