An uncommon work in a half calf binding, rebacked with contemporary morocco to the spine. This copy was presented by the Lords of the Committee of Council on Education to R. E. Smithson, who contributed to the exhibition, according to the presentation bookplate to the front paste down. This catalogue was created for the Science and Art Department of the Committee of Council on Education by F. Althaus and Robert Henry Soden Smith (1822-1890), Keeper of the Art Library of the South Kensington Museum (V&A Museum) from 1857 to 1890. Samuel Redgrave (1802-1876), a civil servant who contributed to the National Portrait exhibitions of 1866, 1867, and 1868, wrote the introduction. In a half calf binding, rebacked with contemporary morocco to the spine. Externally sound, though rubbed to the boards. Tape repairs to the hinges. Small stamp to the front blank.
