Elkin Mathews; Coulson Kernahan
The Views of Christopher
London, Elkin Mathews, 1904. Vellum. A smart very scarce copy of this novella from Charles Elkin Mathews, with a preface by Coulson Kernahan. Very scarce work. A novella following the young Christopher as he navigates Feudalism, money, and learning to play the game. Written by Charles Elkin Mathews, a British author, publisher and bookseller who played an important role in literary London in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. After opening his own publishing house, he published works by names such as: W. B. Yeats, John Masefield, James Joyce, Ezra Pound and Robert Bridges. With a preface from Coulson Kernaham, an English novelist. Bound in half vellum with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Light discolouration to the vellum as is typical with ageing, and the odd small mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and the odd pencil mark. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
