MACLEOD, ALAN LIVINGSTONE
From Rinks to Regiments Hockey Hall-of
Vancouver BC: Heritage House, 2018. First Edition; First Printing. Softcover. ISBN: 1772032689. Bottom fore corner bumped ; A bright, solid book, B&W photographs throughout; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 185 pages; "This year marks the centenary of two pivotal events in Canadian history—one of them weighty, the other an enduring source of delight. In November 1918, the catastrophe of the First World War came to an end. That same year, the first season of the National Hockey League concluded with the Toronto Arenas winning the NHL championship over the Montreal Canadiens. This book with deals the nexus, or collision, between hockey and war. Unbeknownst to many modern-day fans, thirty players, one referee, and one builder now enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame were also soldiers in the Great War. Most of them served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force—the Canada Corps that distinguished itself on the battlefields of Ypres, the Somme, Vimy, and Passchendaele. Four of these men were killed in action. Four were decorated for gallantry. Twenty-seven were volunteers, and five were conscripted under the Military Service Act of 1917. All have remarkable stories. From Rinks to Regiments resurrects the memories of these national heroes and celebrates their contributions on both the ice and the frontlines.". Very Good+ .

0889222924 MIKI, ROY & CASSANDRA KOBAYASHI, Justice in Our Time the Japanese Canadian Redress Settlement
MIKI, ROY & CASSANDRA KOBAYASHI
Justice in Our Time the Japanese Canadian Redress Settlement
Vancouver BC: Talonbooks, 1991. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. ISBN: 0889222924. Only slight wear ; A near-fine volume in a near-fine DJ. Dust jacket in Mylar jacket protector. Laid in in back are sheets regarding related materials ; 9.25 X 0.62 X 11.25 inches; 160 pages; From 1942 to 1949, a group of innocent Canadians were uprooted from their homes and businesses on the west coast, dispossessed, and forced to disperse across Canada, merely on the basis of their Japanese ancestry. Some 4,000 were even exiled to war torn Japan. These injustices remained unresolved for nearly forty years. Then in the 1970s, a handful of Japanese Canadians began a movement to seek redress for these wrongs, through a negotiated settlement with the Government of Canada. What began as the dream of a few became a national movement that captured the attention of the entire Canadian public by the mid-1980s. The Redress Settlement signed on September 22, 1988 by the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) and the Prime Minister of Canada was hailed as a major victory for human rights. The substantial Redress Settlement negotiated by the National Association of Japanese Canadians offered: -Individual compensation to Japanese Canadians directly affected by the injustices-A community fund to assist in rebuilding the community that was destroyed-Pardons for those wrongfully convicted under the War Measures Act-The offer of citizenship to those exiled and to their descendants-The establishment of a Canadian Race Relations Foundation to combat racism.
