Biel, Druck von W. Ga§mann, Sohn, 1851, in-8vo, 32 S., mit einem lithogr. Situationsplan der grossen Brücke zu Nidau, Titelbl. mit 3 kl. Wasserflecken, am äussern und oberen Rand durchgehend etwas gebräunt, broschiertes Heft ohne Einband, teilw. unaufgeschnittenes u. unbeschnittenes Exemplar.
¶ Der mysteriöse Tod des Bieler Arztes und radikalen Berner Grossrates Edouard Knobel im April 1851 führte zu heftiger Polemik und einem eigentlichen Pressekrieg zwischen den Parteien in Biel. Knobel, geboren 1804 im Kanton Schwyz, war Konvertit, ein ehemaliger Franziskanermönch aus Luzern, der sich 1841 als Arzt in Nidau niederliess. Er ertrank auf dem Nachhauseweg während einer stürmischen Nacht unter nie ganz geklärten Umständen in der Zihl. Die Jura-Zeitung stellte es sogleich als einen politischen Mord dar. Die vorliegende Schrift versucht, basierend auf den offiziellen Untersuchungsakten, zu beweisen, dass es sich um ein einfaches Unglück handelte und nicht um einen politisch motivierten Mord. Exemplaire numéroté N° XIV, (les ex. num. en chiffre romain ne sont pas mentionnés dans la justification, sans suite), cartonnage plein papier satiné vert, titre or, couverture originale de la brochure cons. ¶ Exemplaire hors-commerce numéroté sur japon impérial. Très belle édition illustrée limitée. Proche du vaudeville, ce roman de Paul de Kock publié en 1825, met en scène les amours adultères de la bourgeoisie parisienne. Comme le texte, l'illustration de Fargeot (peintre paysagiste né en 1880) n'a rien d'érotique, ni même de sensuel: elle restitue des atmosphères et des scènes de salons, dans le goût artistique de la première moitié du XIXe siècle. ¶ Montparnasse, Parigi 1920 Silvio Loffredo è nato a Parigi, a Montparnasse, nel 1920 da genitori italiani. é il padre Michele, pittore di vena naturalista, a educarlo all'arte, indicandogli 'il senso della misura e l'arte di dosare i colori'. Loffredo frequenta, successivamente, la scuola di nudo alla Grand Chaumière. Al termine della guerra si diploma all'istituto d'arte di Siena. Amerigo Bartoli è il maestro che frequenta all'Accademia di Belle Arti a Roma, città che abbandona per Firenze dove incontra Ottone Rosai e studia con Primo Conti, Ugo Capocchini e, soprattutto, Celestino Celestini. Negli anni Sessanta segue, a Salisburgo, le lezioni di Oskar Kokoschka, da cui deriva la forte tensione cromatica di ascendenza espressionistica e, di pari passo, procede nella realizzazione, già intrapresa a partire dai primi anni Cinquanta, insieme al fratello Victor, di film sperimentali, un interesse questo che l'artista ha continuato a coltivare fino a oggi e che ha trovato numerosi riconoscimenti, in occasione di rassegne internazionali di film d'autore, in Europa e in America. Con i primi anni Sessanta giungono riconoscimenti internazionali. Firenze, tuttavia, rimane il centro della sua attività ed è qui che svolge anche il suo lavoro didattico che, dal 1973, si esplica presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti dove è titolare della classe di pittura.Temi ricorrenti della sua famosa produzione artistica sono i Battisteri e i Bestiari con cui partecipa a numerosissime mostre sia in Italia che all'estero. é ripetutamente presente alla Biennale di Venezia. Il 12 giugno 2003, Loffredo ha ricevuto dal presidente del Consiglio regionale toscano, Riccardo Nencini, la medaglia d'argento alla carriera dedicata all'arte.
