¶ Mit Originalumschlag. / Band in gutem Zustand. Willem Adolf Visser `T Hooft (1900-1985, führender, niederländischer ev. Theologe der ökumenischen Bewegung; Generalsekretär des ÖK-Rates der Kirchen) studierte in Leiden ev.-ref. Theologie. Bereits 1924 wurde er zum Sekretär des Weltbundes des CVJM berufen und konnte so 1925 als jüngster Teilnehmer an der Stockholmer Weltkirchenkonferenz, die durch die Initiative von Erzbischof Söderblom zustandekam, teilnehmen. 1931 wurde er Generalsekretär des christlichen Studentenweltbundes. In dieser Tätigkeit konnte er seine geistlichen Gaben mit einem glänzenden Organisationstalent verbinden. Ab 1937 war er in allen ökumenischen Weltkonferenzen präsent. Während der Not- und Verfolgungszeit des Nationalsozialismus hielt er, der tief von Karl Barths Theologie beeinflusst war, ständige Verbindung mit den Männern und Frauen der Bekennenden Kirche. 1938 konstituierte sich in Utrecht (Niederlande) ein "vorläufiger Ausschuss" des "in Bildung begriffenen Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen". Hier wurde W.A. V. zum Generalsekretär mit dem Sitz in Genf berufen (BBKL, XII; 1512-1514).
