Also included are books in the Dutch language published outside the Northern Netherlands with the exception of those printed in present-day Belgium. Individual entries contain the following elements: Author or, in case of anonymous works, the significant noun(s) of the title - Printing-place, printer and/or publisher - Printing- date - References to other bibliographies (if any) - Census of copies. Authors and anonymous works are listed in the first volume, whereas the second volume describes the numerous official publications which appeared during the said period. The work is concluded by no less than six Indices: 1. Authors, translators and editors; 2. Other names occurring in the descriptions; 3. Authorities which issued the official publications; 4. Index of titles; 5. Index of printers, publishers and booksellers with a chronological survey of their publications; 6. Copy-impressa. One of the most important features of the Typographia Batava is the attribution to a given printer of the thousands of anonymously published editions which appeared during this period as a consequence of the region's current political- and religious situation. The number of this category of books and pamphlets exceeds one-third of the total number of entries and, with the exception of only 275 titles (i.e. 3,7% of the total), the author has succeeded in attributing them to a certain printer..
