In 1971 stond uitgever Jaco Groot in een Parijs café te praten met de kunstenaar Roland Topor. Het gesprek ging over onleesbare boeken. 'Ik heb zo'n boek gemaakt,' zei Topor, 'morgen, zelfde tijd, zelfde café, breng ik het mee.' Toen Groot het boekje de volgende dag zag, zei hij tot Topors stomme verbazing: 'Dat gaan we uitgeven!' Het boek verscheen bij uitgeverij Thomas Rap, in 1975 gevolgd door een tweede druk bij Uitgeverij De Harmonie. Topor werd door Adriaan van Dis geïnterviewd in diens boekenprogramma. Van Dis overhandigde Topor het onleesbare boek en vroeg hem een stukje voor te lezen. Topor, hierop onvoorbereid, sloeg spontaan een hand voor zijn mond en begon mompelend en onverstaanbaar voor te lezen. Uitgever Groot is de enige ter wereld die weet welke tekst door Topor onleesbaar werd gemaakt (bron: bieslog (vpro)).
