Full purplish brown leather over beveled boards, gilt spine lettering, raised spine bands, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Some rubbing to the extremities, visible dampstain to the bottom quarter of both covers (but not spine), dampstains to lower portion of the first and last few leaves (ending at the title page in the beginning), good hinges, sound text block, otherwise clean pages with an inscription on the preliminary blank, no other markings.

Maurry pour Robert Ballard , seul impimeur du Roy pour la Musique..., 1658, in-4°, frontispiece gravé + titre avec vignette sur bois + (14) pp + 531pp + (1)(privilege) + 4 gravures à pleine page signées François Chauveau. Plein veau d'époque, coiffe supérieure légèrement endomm. avec perte de cuir, légères traces d'usure aux mors et aux coins, dos à cinq nerfs avec décor doré. Deuxième édition complète. Elle rassemble les quatre parties. Corneille avait entrepris cet ouvrage à la demande de son confesseur et probablement aussi à celle de la reine Anne d'Autriche. La première édition est de1656 et a la même page de titre sauf la date et la mention; ''Privilege de sa Majesté'' au lieu de ...''du Roy''. ( Tchemerzine, Quatrième volume I pp. 139). ." .

Imprimé à Rouen, & se vend à Paris, Pierre Le Petit, 1653, pt. in-8°, XII (dont un faux titre gravé) + 191 p., illustré de 30 gravures à caractère religieux, çà et là quelques rousseurs et papier quelque peu bruni, jolie reliure en cuir, dos à nerfs richement doré, double encadrement de trois filets et fleurons d'angle sur les plats (décor 'à la Duseuil', avec monogramme 'CTDS' entouré de quatre 'S' barrés, coiffes restaurées, bon exemplaire.
¶ Deuxième édition, deux ans après l'originale, de la traduction en vers de Pierre Corneille des deux premiers livres de l'Imitation de Jésus-Christ de Thomas a Kempis, la traduction complète des quatre livres n'étant publiée pour la première fois qu'en 1656.
