MILLER, HENRY [ROBERT FINK]
FOUR PAGE TLS FROM ROBERT FINK 11/20/58
N.P. CA. Fink, 11/20/58. 1958, Original Autographed Letters & Documents. FOUR PAGE TLS FROM ROBERT FINK 11/20/58 to Henry Miller from his close friend Robert Fink on 8vo. off-white bond in near fine condition. "Dear Henry:- / I need two paperback Colossi very badly. One for Edie's Spanish teachers also teaches French. He was at one time a student of Wallace Folie and for some curious reason never read any of your books! So I wish to give him Colossus, since he is a nice Jewish boychik and his wife is a typical New York girl from the era when all the Yiddish mamas [during the 20's] were naming their daughters Shirley. The Gentiles used other names. ]ask your first wife!]. Anyway the enclosed is for the Colossi. / I don't know the author of that limerick "tome". It is banned like the Tropics so I can't get one although I have tried". What follows is more about Miller's new sound system, Fink's shopping for corduroy slacks for Miller & Capri pants for Eve, a note about Nexus & 28 'dirty' limericks, Bob's naughty specialty & Miller's fascination. A curious letter signed twice -at the bottom of page 1 & page 4. Page one in very good condition with one short closed tear repaired archivally, otherwise the following pages are in fine condition. Robert Finkelstein (later Fink) was a fan, correspondent, and benefactor of Henry Miller. Their friendship strengthened when Fink and his wife Edie moved to Los Angeles from Chicago in 1949. Fink soon found an excellent job in Los Angeles and opened his own successful electronics business. The Finks visited Big Sur on weekends, sometimes taking food and other gifts for which Miller reciprocated with manuscripts and water colors. Fink offered help in Miller's attempts to help other impoverished writers who appealed to him for funds, food or a place to stay. Fink also began defending Miller against vilifying editorials, writing articles praising Miller's works and character. Provenance: PBA /The Personal Archive of Henry Miller Part I Fine Modern Literature Thursday, June 26, 1997. Signed by Author.

ONE PAGE TLS FROM ROBERT FINK 11/08/58 to Henry Miller from his close friend Robert Fink on 8vo. off-white bond in near fine condition. "Dear Henry: / "By this time you should have your new music system. I take a dim view of all my instructions. Any way one way or the other you will or already have unpacked the shipment. I think everything is self explanatory. If not, write me, or have Harrydick fix it up. The speakers don't have too much base response. I am working on a deal. " what follows is one of Fink's patented dirty limerick: "There was a young man from East Lynne, / Whose C^#@ was the size of a pin. / said his girl with a laugh, / As she inserted his staff, / "This won't be much of a sin". Much love [Signed] Bob" Robert Finkelstein (later Fink) was a fan, correspondent, and benefactor of Henry Miller. ONE PAGE TLS FROM ROBERT FINK 11/28/58 to Henry Miller from his close friend Robert Fink on 8vo. off-white bond in near fine condition. "Dear Henry and Eve: / "The books came in fine. Thank you for the French edition of Colosse. You should have had the Nobel Prize for this book years ago. I notice that New Directions is publishing the Ferlinghetti, A Coney Island of the Mind. Either your publisher never read Into the Night Life or Ferlinghetti stole the title. But then again, I knew back in 1943 that you would be the most copied, swiped, plagiarized and imitated writer of the century. Much love [signed] Bob Fink". ONE PAGE TLS FROM ROBERT FINK 11/10/58 to Henry Miller from his close friend Robert Fink [unsigned] on 8vo. off-white bond in near fine condition. "Henry my love:- / The Hungarians around here all f^&*!% me. None of them could give me the information. As a last resort I will look it up in the Encyclopedia Britannica. " What follows is a collect of Nasty limericks & instructions for their true creation: "In your dirty limerick, the Haut Limerick, as it were, not only do endings of lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme, but when written out they must be spelled exactly like the ending of line 1. Same goes for lines 3 & 4 if you wish to be a purist. The true mark of a phony limerickicist is when these things don't take place. In its highest form one does the impossible like. There was a young lady from Worestershire, / Who dreamt someone had seducedestershire, She awoke in the night, / With a terrible fright, / A tuft of the mattress had goosedestershire!: Robert Finkelstein (later Fink) was a fan, correspondent, and benefactor of Henry Miller.
