[solid copy BUT about a dozen pages or so mid-book have been a bit nibbled on by some insect, with resultant minor loss to text; other than that an attractive copy, red cloth covers very clean, light wear at spine ends, one-time owner's name and city of residence in pencil on front pastedown; jacket is edgeworn, a bit rubbed on spine and front panel, a few tiny tears at both ends of spine, a couple of diagonal wrinkle-lines in upper right-hand corner of front panel]. (4 B&W photographs) Classic eerie crime tale about a team of professional freaks -- "Tweedledee, the midget -- the mind conceiving the fiendish crimes perpetrated by -- Hercules, the giant and physical power, -- and Echo, the ventriloquist, -- of the double voice" -- who devote their talents to criminal enterprise. Filmed twice by MGM (in 1925 and 1930), with Lon Chaney as Echo in both versions, the latter (for which this volume is the tie-in) being his first talkie, and last film. Illustrated with four black-and-white stills from the film; Chaney is in three of them. [See condition NOTE about insect-nibbled pages.]. Good in Very Good dj .
