His two young adult novels, Stonecutter and Wild Ride to Heaven, will be published soon by Houghton-Mifflin, under the pen name Leander Watts. These novels, and more in the series, are set in the Genesee Valley during the 1830s. He also has two non-fiction narratives (Blood and Volts: Edison, Tesla and the Electric Chair and The Birth of Heroin). His expertise on the electric chair has made him a source or consultant for such films as: Mr. Death, The Green Mile, and the BBC documentary Secret History: The Chair (shown in the U.S. on the History Channel). He was also a founder and lyricist for two bands: the performance art band, Health and Beauty and the Badenovs, a ska, punk and hillbilly rock band, for whom he supplied tenor sax, trombone and vocals. He and friends created The Caravan of Fear, Rochester's defunct Halloween-Traveling Musical Extravaganza. He has been a teacher for 12 years, and currently is a professor of creative writing and literature at SUNY Brockport. Metzger is a fascinating writer, mixing solid research and writing skills with a nose for the ignored subject and a quirky sense of humor.".
