In handsome, pictorial d/w by Roese with scantily-clad, ghostly beauty playing matchmaker while an irate wife stands with hands on hips severely chastising her husband for his dalliance. With some chipping to the top and bottom of the spine, a pinky fingernail-sized chip missing from the bottom of the front panel and a patch of color the size of a 50 cent piece leeched out at the top of the left-hand corner of the front panel. A scarce dustjacket on a collectible book with the original price of $2.00 on the inside front flap. With "Buy War Bonds "ad on the rare panel. From the Rolland Comstock collection. Comstock was an internationally known book collector who was murdered in 2007 and the case remains unsolved to date. Comstock's bookplate / Ex Libris on the FEP. Comstock's "First Edition" sticker on the Brodart over the spine. The novel was Smith's last and was published post-humously after completion by Norman Matson. The novel was filmed in 1942 I Married a Witch, one of the inspirations for the TV series Bewitched. Red cloth board with yellow lettering. Some rubbing to spine ends and corners. Binding slightly cocked but solid. Pages very slightly tanned but supple. Jacket is attractive in Brodart protector.
