No place. No date. Circa 1870. ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPT. Oblong 8vo. (9.4 x 5.5 inches). Longfellow's popular eearly poem, An April day, written in a neat hand on 12 thick paper leaves. Ten of the leaves are beautifully illustrated in watercolour by an unknown but very skilled artist. Bound in attractive nineteenth century full red morocco. Spine with multiple gilt ruled lines and three raised bands. Both boards have a highly decorative gilt roll and ruled lines border around a double ruled and corner decorated blind tooled panel. The front board has the title and author lettered in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles and yellow coated endpapers. All edges gilt. A little rubbing to the extremities but overall a beautiful volume in very good condition.

A bound volume of this noted literary magazine featuring poetry, stories and essays. This includes 'Chimney Corner for 1866,' by Harriet Beecher Stowe; 'English Opinion on the American War,' by W.M. Rosetti; 'A Landscape Painter,' by Henry James and other work. GOOD condition, slightly ex-library, with a circular embossment on the title page and ink numbers on the copyright page. No other treatments found. General fading and minor soiling to the covers. Heavy scuffs, superficial chips to the leather at the near the head of the spine and along the upper hinges. Leather rather scuffed along the raised bands. Previous owner's initials and last named embossed in gilt at the foot of the spine. Interior solid, with uneven toning to the paper. Scattered foxing throughout, ranging from minor to heavy, especially to the endpapers. Good/No Jacket.
