A somewhat Gothic tale set in colonial Maryland (1681). A well researched tale by this author that did not achieve popular success but does illuminate life in early US. POOR/FAIR condition. In greenish cloth lacking the paper label. Moderate to heavy soiling and staining to the covers. Moderate scuffing, uneven fading and darkening, and other general wear. Extremities scuffed and bumped. Spine pulled and faded with some dampstaining present. The binding is weak but solid, with slight cracking near the front and rear of the text block. All pages intact. Moderate to heavy foxing throughout, with some pages very browned and a dampstain present in the gutter of the first and last few pages. Previous owner's name on ffep, the title page and last blank endpaper, as well as some mathematical calculations on this page.
