Modern binding in old style, quarter calf with marbled boards, marbled paper printed without synthetic pigments. Several leaves slightly water stained, o/w very good, tight text. Title page reinforced. An account of the greatness and grandeur of Rome, its size, architecture, and military prowess are extoled by Lipsius. The Plantin Press was established in Antwerp in 1555 by Christopher Plantin (1520-1589) one of the most noted publishers of his era. He developed the characteristic floral, copperplate illustrations and engraved title pages. This title was published by his successor, Jan Moretus, in 1605. The Press is preserved today by the City of Antwerp as the "Museum Plantin-Moretus.
