In Iulianum Invectivae duae [and other works]. Cum scholiis Graecis nunc primum editis, & ejusdem Authoris nonnullis aliis quorum syllabum sequens Pag. continet. Omnia ex bibliotheca clarissimi viri D. Henrici Savilii. Etonae [Eton], in Collegio Regali. Excudebat Ioannes Norton [...] 1610. 4to., pp. [viii] 172 [xliv]. Greek text, Latin prefatory material and commentary. Moderate browning, some waterstaining at beginning. Contemporary blind-ruled calf, blind-stamped decoration at corners, central italianate oval blind stamps, rubbed, corners and spine ends worn, some cracking to front joint (but strong), ties removed. Modern bookplate of George Dunn of Wooley Hall to front pastedown, old bookseller’s catalogue description pasted to flyleaf. A small collection of works by Gregory of Nazianzus, patriarch of Constantinople (c.325-389), in their original Greek, with ancient scholia. Richard Montagu (1577-1641), later bishop of Chichester and Norwich and a High Church controversialist, assisted the studies of the Greek professor and provost of Eton, Sir Henry Savile (1549-1622). The first British publication in any form of these texts, it is also one of the first books printed at Eton (perhaps the second after the St Chrysostom of the same year), where Savile set up a press, and it uses the ‘Silver Type’, so called for its great beauty.
