The art of the Theatre Foulis. 1905, First Edition First Printing. Soft cover, 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book, Rare title. 55pp. 8pp of plates (as issued). Wrappers are complete with very small chips to spine tips (really just where wrappers are oversized beyond the textblock) and a couple of short closed tears to spine tips (max depth 0.8"). No marks to boards. Some creaing to oversized wrappers. Internally clean. Small neat blue crayon (in adult hand) initial to blank endpaper. Tight textblock. No loose & no missing leaves. Foulis only produced about 50 titles and this is one of the rarest with haunting full page illustrations by edward gordon craig. Text is a dialogue between a playgoer and the stage director; the work covers stage and lighting design, and also the various relationships between creative and non-creative personnel. The title was reprinted later in 1911 as "on the art of the theatre". This first & original ediiton is very rare. Very good.
