London, W.W. Greener 1898. Octavo publisher's aquamarine moire cloth (spine browned and a bit worn at the ends); some natural browning; a used but decent enough copy. A label of the Barrow Maintenance Trust Library obscuring an earlier label inside the front board; the bookseller's label of Ken Chapman (two guineas) and Ron E. Graham's bookplate.
¶ This is scarce, which cannot be unexpected given that Greener was a member of the family notable for writing and publishing technical books about guns. A futuristic fantasy must have been met by their usual customers with a stony glare. It is very much science fiction with invention at its heart, beginning with wireless communication. There is, of course, a machine of terrible destruction, war, and the re-ordering of the modern world.
