Illustrated endpapers, both different, front endpaper being a sketch of Carrung-Gurring cataract has drawn by George Caley, and back endpaper being a facsimile of his handwriting. Throughout the text, maps and illustrations done by George Caley, and black and white frontispiece of a kookaburra. Green boards with gilt writing on the spine. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing the same kookaburra as the frontispiece, green background with black & white writing on front panel and on the spine. There is very light rubbing to the top of the spine section of the dustwrapper. John Currey has edited the letters of George Caley to Sir Joseph Banks. These letters ranged from descriptions of new specimens found and of explorations undertaken. Caley also reported on life in the struggling colony under Governor King, then Bligh to give the reader an understanding of ten eventful years that Caley witnessed, from when he arrived in 1800.
