Spine with five raised bands with blind-rule outline; author and fleurons blind-tooled in the compartments. All edges speckled red. [124], 974 pages; signatures *6, **4, 1†-4†6, 5†8, a-b6, c8, a-z6, A-Z6, Aa-Zz6, Aaa-Lll 6, Mmm7; bound without blank Mmm8. Title-page with early ownership inscription; Japanese-tissue repairs in blank areas at head and lower foredge corner. Some light damp-marking at lower gutter on the preliminary pages. Ink stain in lower margin on folio c1, not affecting the print area. Final leaf, Mmm7 (pp.973-4) washed; colophon on verso. Beautifully laid-out with panels of text in roman, with some decorative initial capitals, and surrounding notes in italic type. Wide margins. Occasional early manuscript marginalia in Greek and Latin. COPAC reports only two copies of this edition in the British Isles: at The National Library of Scotland, Shelfmark Gray.612; and at Oxford, Jesus College Library Fellows' Library, Shelfmark L.5.3.
