EDGEWORTH, FRANCIS YSIDRO
Mathematical Psychics - An Essay On The Application Of Mathematics To The Moral Sciences
Augustus M Kelley, New York, 1967, 2nd edition. Cloth, VG. [iv]+viii+150pp, 6 text figs, index, a fine copy. Reprints of Economic Classics series. Hardback , no dustjacket.
¶ Facsimile reprint of the 1881 1st edition of Mathematical Psychics by the Irish born economist Francis Ysidro Edgeworth [ 1845 - 1926 ]. Despite containing many original & pioneering ideas & theorems, the book was notoriously difficult to understand due in part to the author's idiosyncratic writing style. The book is on the main a critique of Jeavon's theory of Barter Exchange with Edgeworth's limit theorem being Edgeworth's prefered model of equilibrium of supply and demand in a free market.
