Crick was an English molecular biologist, biophysicist, & neuroscientist, most noted for being one of two co-discoverers of the structure of the DNA molecule in 1953, together with James D. Watson. He, Watson & Maurice Wilkins were jointly awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids & its significance for information transfer in living material". In 1946, Maurice Wilkins, a research scientist at the Medical Research Council's biophysics unit at King's College, London began studying the structure of DNA molecules using X-ray diffraction. In 1951 Wilkins gave a talk about his work at a scientific meeting in Naples. The audience included the young American biologist James Watson who was excited & intrigued by Wilkins' work. Watson soon teamed up with Francis Crick at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University to do theoretical work on the structure of DNA. For several years Wilkins & Rosalind Franklin worked at King's College while Watson & Crick worked at Cambridge sharing research & information. In 1953 Watson & Crick made one of the greatest scientific discoveries of all time when they revealed the double-helix structure of DNA. In 1962, the three were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine (Franklin had died in 1958). Signed by Author.
