LINFORTH, IVAN M. , EDWARD C. TOLMAN & BENJAMIN H. LEHMAN
Homage to Monroe Deutsch Three Addresses Delivered at a Gathering in His Memory in Dwinelle Hall at the University of California on October 26, 1955
San Francisco, CA: Grabhorn Press, 1956. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Limited to 200 unnumbered copies. Limitation page has a hand-painted insignia. Cream paper covered boards with black & gilt paper label. Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Text pages clean & bright, though there are several very beginning spots of foxing. Text paper and paper for endpapers is handmade with bottom edges, and some of the front edges uncut (the uncut edges depend on where the paper was folded to make the leaves. Previous owner has inked in his name in small neat writing on front pastedown. Dust jacket is plain cream paper (which unfortunately, the previous owner has stencilled the title on the spine in blue ink--neatly) and which also has absorbed a bit of light dirt and fingermarkings. Spine ends of dust jacket have small edge tears with a bit of light nicking (one to top edge, two smaller to bottom edge). The addresses in the book are by students and colleagues: Ivan M. Linforth, Edward C. Tolman, and, Benjamin H. Lehman. This book is one of the Grabhorn Press books which are more vanity press style material than some of the heavy-hitting material otherwise seen. --Few, if any, in this company have known Monroe Deutsch longer than I. As undergraduates at the end of the last century we sat together in the class rooms of old North Hall. From then till now, throughout his expanding career, we have been friends. During the last few days many voices have been raised in praise of his qualities and achievements--. Professor Deutsch was a teacher of Latin at the University of California at Berkeley and became provost (along with other administrative positions) later on in life.. Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket .
