Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ The complete Polychronicon of Ranulf Higden [ 1280 - 1364 ] who was a Benedictine monk of the monastery of St. Werburgh in Chester. Based upon many sources it is a universal history of the Globe & was extremely popular in the 14th & 15th centuries. Split into seven books, the main value of the Polychonicon today is the view of geographic, scientific & historic knowledge, as it was understood in the age the books were written, which it affords. The seven books are presented as the Latin original of Higden with parallel translations by the Cornish academic John Trevisa [ 1342 - 1402 ] & an unknown other.
