Mostly deals with the lives of women in Texas and New Mexico from the early 1900s up to the 1930s, with quite a lot of reference to quiltmaking. Originally published in 1978, this is a later paperback edition from 1989. The 1984 play ''The Quilters'' was partly based on the book. 159pp, colour and b&w illustrations throughout.
