Dark red glossy wraps with gold statue illustration; 100 pp. with 50 bw plates. ¶ Includes a new introduction about the author's life by Bernard Fagg, curator of the Pitt-Rivers Museum. With 393 bw photographs of pieces from the Pitt-Rivers collection, described and with relevant background. The pieces originally were part or the war booty from a British expedition against Benin (now Nigeria), and many of the best pieces made their way into Pitt-Rivers's collection.
