The Peaceable and Prosperous Regiment of Blessed Queene Elisabeth: A Facsimile from Holinshed's Chronicles (1587) San Marino, California, Huntington Library. 2005. (ISBN: 0873281616). Hardcover. Book, Edited, with an introduction, by Cyndia Susan Clegg. Textual commentary by Randall McLeod. San Marino, California: Huntington Library, 2005. First edition thus. This facsimile of the Elizabethan portion of Holinshed's Chronicles (1587) includes all of its known originals and cancels. These are represented in thirteen facsimile sections derived from nine copies, including four in the collections of the Huntington Library. Perhaps best known for the Privy Council censorship to which it was subjected upon publication, the Elizabethan section occupies an important place in the literary imagination of early modern England. In particular, Shakespeare is thought to have relied on its accounts of Saxon, Plantagenet, Lancaster, York, Tudor, and Scottish monarchs for many of his history plays. Folio. Original gray cloth binding, with gilt titles. Issued without a dust jacket. A fine copy. Fine. Book number: 057047 USD 250.00 [Appr.: EURO 196.25 | £UK 158.5 | JP¥ 19816]
