Beron." Another "Capucinorum in Sursee" also "loci Capu. in Schyfen". Three small pin sized worm holes to TP soon diminishing to one and then none after the first few pages of text. There are two corners torn away without loss, 4 marginal tears (only one into text and that without loss). And p 634 has a marginal paper fault, again not affecting text.Page 479/480 is bound before 477/478. There are a few gatherings that are browner and a few creases. A few ink splatters to about 6 pages, and the lower edge has some faint damp marking, mainly marginal, but the overall condition is very good with a tight text block and clean pages. *This collection was made by order of Charles the Great and until the present is still the basis of breviary readings. Although assigned to Paul the Deacon it has also been ascribed to Alcuin by Adams but as a suppositious work (cf.H-819). In contemporary dark-brown calf with a border consisting of one gilt and two blind rules on the boards with an attractive gilt medallion in centre of both boards. Sometime rebacked with four raised bands on the spine and burgundy lettering-piece. 77, [1] leaves; signatures: A-N6. Woodcut title-page with title at head and large central woodcut with six smaller cuts down each side. Paper repair to lower foredge margin of title page, well away from text. Printed in two columns throughout with rubricated initials. Small tear in gutter margin at foot of C2 (fol.14), without loss. Manuscript note in margin of K3 (fol.57). A few scattered worm holes throughout, not affecting legibility, with more in the last few leaves, mainly in the margins, again, not much affecting legibility. Some light damp-marking in the margins of a few leaves. Final leaf with a few small holes and paper repair in lower foredge corner, not affecting text, and some damp marking. Homiliarius Doctorum is described as a 'collection of patristic homilies and sermons compiled, presumably, ca. 790 by Paulus Diaconus ... at Monte Cassino, for liturgical purposes. It was eventually incorporated into the Matins of the Roman Breviary. ... In its 16th century editions, revisions, amplications, the collection was frequently attributed to Alcuin, [735-804], perhaps a confusion with another collection reputedly prepared by him.' Cf.
