Hard Cover, xxiv, 278, [2], [1 ]Pp. 18 cm. Fine/No Jacket.¶ [Cont.] nouvelle méthode d'apprendre l'histoire, que d'éclaircissement à ceux qui y sont rapportés. by Pons Augustin Alletz. As a mnemonic device, Alletz has put the whole of the history of France into a poem of simple rhyming couplets. These take up about 1/3rd of each page, after the introduction. The rest of the page is filled with prose footnotes, which make for a richer understanding of the facts. The errata sheet at the rear is in two parts one for the poetry and the other for prose. This work really belongs to the history of Mnemonics. The preface discusses pedagogy and the place in it of this work. The role of the teacher and class discussion based on the prose notes as an aid in learning the history of France more complexly. The book went into two editions. BN, v. 2, column 440; CG, II, 440- Barbier who ascribes it to Alletz. OCLC and RLIN both find the same single copy of the first edition of 1745 at Brown and none of this one.
