A serious attempt to introduce children at an early age to a rational, scientific way of explaining the phenomena of the world and our technology. Ms. Dix was very important crusader for children's right to learn [both boys and girls] for the rights of prisoners and the conditions under which they were kept, and of course for temperance. The book is graced by a wonderful emblematic etching by D.C. Johnston on the HT where she is represented as opening out the world of knowledge to a little girl.
