CROSS, MILTON & EWEN, DAVID Milton Cross' Encyclopedia of the Great Composers and Their Music, Two Volume Hardcover Set -- New Revised Edition
Doubleday & Company, Inc. 1962. Hard Cover. Good/Good. Dust jacket edge wear, light spotting on top page ridges. 1009 pages. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: "Milton John Cross (April 16, 1897 - January 2, 1975) was a famous radio announcer on the NBC radio network. He was best known as the voice of the Metropolitan Opera, announcing its Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts for forty-three years, from the time of their inception in 1931. Throughout this time, he missed only two broadcasts, due to the deaths of his wife and daughter. Cross' distinctive voice conveyed the excitement of live performances "from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City" for generations of radio listeners. Cross never retired, but died suddenly from a heart attack during the Met season of 1974-75. He was succeeded by Peter Allen, who had been his standby announcer. Cross was also the announcer for the radio quiz show Information Please. Cross was born in New York City, where he also died." -- Wikipedia.
