As a painter of landscapes, still lifes and interiors he started in the tradition of the Stimmungsimpressionismus (Austrian mood impressionism), characterised by his teacher and friend the landscape painter Emil Jakob Schindler. Then he developed a two-dimensional style like the other artists of the Viennese Secession, in the late works modified in an expressive way filled with light and space. Carl Moll was the cofounder of the Viennese Secession and the director of the Gallery Miethke, so he organized a lot of very important exhibitions of contemporary art. Thus he can be called a key figure of Austrian art life in the beginning of the 20th century.
