The motivations (territorial, financial, military, diplomatic) and circumstances (support or opposition) enable us to clearly distinguish between chance and political choice. In both avoiding biological extinction and the splitting up of the heritage, the heads of the familiy had to play on "the matrimonial chessboard" relating to demography (number of children, sex), ecclesiastical and nobility-rules, according to the European political situation. Over the 8 generations, between Rudolph I and Maximilian I (1273-1519), all matrimonial plans were studied, whether they had been acheived (58 marriages) or not (110 projects), so too were the various stages of the matrimonial engagement (investigations, promises, engagements, proxies) along with their financial implications (marriage portion, counter-portion (Widerlage), Morgengabe, dowry). This work was awarded the silver medal for the Prix Francois Millepierres (for history and sociology) in 2006 from the Academie Francaise. Les motivations (territoriales, financieres, militaires, diplomatiques) et les circonstances (soutiens ou oppositions) permettent de faire la part du hasard et du choix politique. Tout en evitant et l'extinction biologique et la parcellisation domaniale, les chefs de famille devaient jouer sur l'" echiquier matrimonial " en fonction de la demographie (nombre d'enfants, sexe), des regles ecclesiastiques et nobiliaires, du rapport des forces territoriaux. Sur huit generations, entre Rodolphe I et Maximilien I (1273 - 1519), tous les projets matrimoniaux sont etudies, aboutis (58 mariages) ou non (110 projets), ainsi que les etapes de l'engagement matrimonial (enquetes, promesses de mariage, fiancailles, procurations) et leurs implications financieres (dots, contre-dots, Morgengabe, douaires). L'ouvrage a ete recompense par l'Academie Francaise avec la medaille d'argent 2006 du Prix Francois Millepierres (Histoire et Sociologie). Language : French, Latin.
