Wonderful account of the " shout ' or drinking at anothers expense and when friends meet having nobblers, description of Sydney, Port Phillip Bay and Melbourne includes Gold districts, bicycles, fishing with flies, opium, water from Yan Yean reservoir, flooding of Elizabeth Street, interesting descriptions of all types of transport including horse drawn, rail, sail, foot, snakes, plants that poison sheep and cattle, gem stones and how to find them including from a chickens guts, copper, all types of farming, coal, timber and mineral wealth interesting account of bounty on snakes. Frontispiece of aboriginal stalking flock of emus dragging spear between toes camouflaged as emu, title page has illustration of platypi, signal semaphore at Port Arthur, Bushrangers, platypus, Echidna, natives feeding and much more. Front board has gilt illustration of southern cross and pointers, gilt trim and title in gilt on spine.
