Title: Cullin - La - Ringo: The triumph and Tragedy of Tommy Wills.
Description: First Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. 166; text illustrated with numerous b/w. photographs, bibliography, bound in original stiff illustrated wrappers, very good copy. Stafford, Qld.; Les Perrin; 1998. The extraodinary life of Thomas Wentworth Wills (1835-1880) was one of immense achievement and triumph - culminating in tragedy. Educated at Rugby School in England, he was the first great Australian born cricketer, the leading figure in the foundation of Australian Rules Football and a member of a famous pioneering family. Members of his family first arrived in Australia in 1799 and were early settlers in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland. By a twist of fate Tommy Wills narrowly escaped death in 1861, when his father and eighteen others were killed at Cullin-la Ringo Station, near Springsure in central Queensland. It was the largest massacre of whites by aborigines in Australian history.
