London and Cambridge, Macmillan and Co. 1865. Palgrave (1826 - 1888) was an ordained priest, he joined the order of the Jesuits and served as a member of the order in India, Rome and in Syria, where he acquired a command of Arabic. On his second journey to Syria he assumed the identity of a travelling Syrian physician. He travelled from Syria, through Najd, and on to Bahrain and Oman, he returned to Europe, where he wrote this narrative of his travels.
